Summary: This dissertation presents the perceptions of the students of the Postgraduate Program in Engineering and Sustainable Development (PPGES) of the Federal University of Espírito Santo (UFES) about the occurrence of plagiarism in academic work. For that, a qualitative research was developed with application of an online questionnaire to the students enrolled in the course of Engineering and Sustainable Development of UFES. Then, interviews were conducted with approximately 10% of the students enrolled in the master's degree (nine students). After collecting data obtained through questionnaires and interviews, the information obtained was analyzed and interpreted, and the students' perceptions about the practice of plagiarism in academic work were presented. The research allowed to conclude that the masters of PPGES present superficial notions about plagiarism, often not knowing how to identify situations that constitute plagiarism. In addition, it was found that there is a lack of methodological orientation to the masters by the University. The results of this research may be useful for the planning of institutional strategies aimed at the prevention of academic plagiarism in both the Master's degree in Engineering and Sustainable Development and in the other Post-Graduate Programs of UFES.
