Summary: Introduction: Discussions held at United Nations (UN) conventions are increasingly focused on Urban Solid Waste Management (MSWM), due to its size and related problems in the environmental and socioeconomic spheres. Given this scenario, this research has as its central theme the MSWM within the scope of the public authorities in the municipality of Vitória, in the state of Espírito Santo. The general objective is to verify whether the existing regulations in the municipality of Vitória-ES are sufficient to achieve the Development Goals (SDGs) within the scope of the MSWM. The methodology used to achieve the central objective is qualitative, descriptive and investigative, through bibliographical and documentary survey (legislation, reports, etc.). Regarding the bibliographical survey, the Smart Bibliometrics tool and the Methodi Ordinatio were used to select articles that supported the bibliographic reference. The main limitation of the research is the challenges in obtaining data to carry out the analysis of the MSWM processes in the municipality of Vitória-ES. It was concluded that several actions of the municipality, such as selective collection, Eco Posto, Eco Vix, among others, are in line with the guidelines of the United Nations to achieve Sustainable Development Goals 11 and 12. Based on the conclusion of this research, it was proposed to the management of this city, through a technical product, that the possibility of inserting smart trash cans be evaluated, as well as the of improve the selective collection system by defining collection days by type of waste, among other actions that aim to improve the GRSU in the municipality.
